Nissan Will Be Placing More Emphasis On Electrification
Nissan is planning on ramping up its electrification process. The Japanese automaker recently released an all-new EV, the Nissan Ariya. Powerful and highly versatile, the Ariya improves upon the Nissan Leaf which was one of the first electric vehicles made available. Although the Nissan Leaf has gotten some upgrades, Nissan is not stopping with its EV transition. According to the automaker, it plans on making almost all of its European lineup either electric or hybrid by 2026. This is ambitious, but since Europe has stricter emission regulations Nissan is hoping to capitalize on the EV transition before other automakers. The automaker has already stated that it will introduce 4 new EVs in the next year. For now, we’ll take a look at Nissan’s goals and see what it has planned for its EV future.
Nissan Is Ramping Up Its EV TransitionÂ
Nissan is preparing to speed up its electrification process. The Japanese automaker was one of the first to introduce an electric vehicle and since then it has improved its technology. The Nissan Leaf gave consumers a taste of what was to come by offering a capable and versatile electric vehicle. Now, Nissan’s latest Ariya offers consumers an even more powerful EV with higher capability and versatility. Nissan is not stopping there, however. According to the automaker, it is committing about $17.6 billion over the next five years to improve its EV process. Part of this investment will go toward launching 19 new EVs by 2030.
Nissan’s latest comments involved its European lineup. The automaker stated that it wanted to make almost all of its offerings either electric or hybrid by the year 2026. This is an ambitious goal however Nissan’s latest Ariya has proved that the automaker has what it takes. Nissan is also reportedly planning on introducing four new EVs in the next 18 months. Two of the four were confirmed to be the Nissan Patrol Warrior and an e-Power hybrid version of the Nissan Qashqai. The other two remain unclear.
To further its electrification process, Nissan is planning on investing a 15 percent stake in Renault’s EV and software entity Ampere. Both Nissan and Renault have been working together for some time, but this stake highlights Nissan’s determination to increase its EV production. Nissan is also working on developing a next-generation battery. With so much knowledge about EVs and batteries, Nissan may be at the forefront of the EV movement. For now, we’ll be staying tuned as we learn more about Nissan’s upcoming EVs.Â
