Nissan Skyline GT-R Will Feature in the New Transformers Movie

The Transformers movie franchise is perhaps one of the most well-known films in the movie industry. Now in its seventh film, the new Transformers movie called “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is scheduled to release on June 24, 2022, and it features a 1995 Nissan R33 Skyline GT-R as one of the villain robots. Behind the film’s production is new movie director Steven Caple Jr. who recently published images of the vehicles in the movie on his Instagram page. Fans of the Transformers franchise can expect to see eight unique vehicles (and possibly even more) that will take on their iconic robotic forms in what will be one of the best Transformers movies thus far.   

Autobot Vehicles

The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, is going to feature in a 1980s Kenworth K100 truck with the rest of his team featuring several special vehicles. Among them are a 964-generation Porsche 911, a second-generation Chevy Camaro, a Volkswagen Microbus, and a Ducati 916 motorcycle. It will be interesting to see how these vehicles will mash up together, considering how different each one is from one another. From superbikes, microbuses to muscle cars and classic, exotic cars. It’s also expected for Peter Cullen to return as the iconic voice of Optimus Prime.  

The New “Terrorcons”

A Transformers movie isn’t complete without evil robots, and thus the Autobots are going up against the “Terrorcons.” These zombie-like Transformers will be featured in vehicles such as a heavily modified Kenworth JF Logging truck, a GMC tow truck, and an R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R. According to movie director Steven Caple Jr., the new movie will serve as a sequel to the 2018 film “Bumblebee” and will take place in 1994 (which makes sense given the number of vintage vehicles involved).

Nissan’s Marketing Strategy

Many film critics and moviegoers know just how heavily advertised vehicles are in Transformers movies. This is ample opportunity for Nissan to revive its GT-R name with an R33 Skyline. In anticipation of the new-generation Nissan GT-R that is rumored to release in the future, Nissan likely wants moviegoers to feel some nostalgia over the 1990s era Skylines to build up some emotional momentum for the next-generation GT-R. We can’t wait to see how the new Transformers movie is going to turn out!
