Nissan Plans on Developing an All-Electric Compact SUV by 2025
Nissan is working on developing a new all-electric compact SUV that it intends to sell sometime in 2025. However, the vehicle is a complete mystery at the moment, and it’s at the early stages of design. Still, online sources indicate the model will share the same platform as the Nissan Ariya EV. Nissan of Europe is also aware of Euro 7 Fuel Standards implemented via the European Green Deal, a set of policies that sets stricter emission standards. With these policies in place, Nissan is leaning more toward electrification and prioritizing the production of electric vehicles while gasoline engines take the back seat.
As European emissions standards become more stringent, Nissan is investing in building and expanding its electric vehicle infrastructure to better roll out electric vehicles. The same can be said for the North American market, and Nissan is already taking steps to further improve its electrification capabilities in the United States via its $1.2 billion-dollar Intelligent Factory Initiative, which involves upgrading many of its factories to produce electric vehicles and production efficiency.
Replacing the Nissan Leaf
The main goal of Nissan’s upcoming all-electric compact SUV is to ultimately replace the Nissan Leaf, as experts believe the model is well overdue for a revamp. It makes sense to introduce a new electric vehicle that will replace it. Even after several upgrades throughout its 11-year production run, it’s time for the little EV hatchback to make room for a more capable electric vehicle.
Sharing the Ariya Platform
We know that Nissan’s upcoming all-electric compact SUV is going to be built on the same platform as the Ariya EV. Also, some online sources indicate that it will feature a low-riding crossover SUV body style. Once Nissan has manufactured a production-ready version of the vehicle, it will be a part of its all-electric lineup. Other news indicates that the new compact electric SUV will be assembled at Nissan’s UK factory for the European market, most probably for the North American market.
The Future of Nissan
Nissan intends for its new electric SUV to be a great success when it becomes available to consumers. That is why the company aims to manufacture the vehicle at a rate of 100,000 units per year. Its battery is also said to be manufactured with all-new Envision AESC battery cell technology for improved efficiency.
