Nissan Patent Hints at New Concept Crossover
Nissan recently unveiled a new concept crossover. Called ‘Chill-Out,’ this concept was found to be entering production according to a European patent database. The concept will supposedly share architecture with the upcoming 2023 Nissan Ariya, thus indicating that the compact crossover may be an electric vehicle. Given that Nissan has been ramping up its electrification efforts, it makes sense that the Japanese automaker would be working on more EVs. Not many details have been released about the new concept, but we’ll take a look at the patent images and speculate as to what Nissan could have in store.
New Nissan Crossover Concept Unveiled
A new patent was recently discovered in the European patent database for a concept crossover vehicle from Nissan called ‘Chill Out.’ This patent comes several months after Nissan showcased the concept crossover. While the Japanese automaker kept details under wraps, many are speculating that it may be a new EV in the works. The discovery of the patent further proves this point as it featured additional images of the concept. These images present a crossover with a swooping roofline, a pointy front end, and a clipped tail. The concept vehicle also had futuristic taillamps with glowing LED tabs which almost resembled the new 2023 Nissan Z.
As far as the architecture goes, the new concept crossover will likely share the same CMF-EV platform that the Nissan Ariya uses. The concept will also likely offer either a single or dual-motor setup. The Ariya is currently capable of 226 horsepower and 221lb-ft of torque with a single motor. The dual-motor offers more performance with 389 horsepower and 442lb-ft of torque. Nissan’s new concept will likely follow these performance standards. It may also feature either a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive system. As far as battery range, the 2023 Nissan Ariya offers 265 to 300 miles so consumers can expect a similar amount from the new concept vehicle.
The interior of the new crossover concept wasn’t revealed, but it will likely emulate the Ariya with a stylish and modern interior cabin. This includes cloth or Nappa leather for the upholstery as well as large display screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. Safety will include Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 which offers advanced safety and driver-assist features. We’re not sure when consumers can expect to see this new concept, but given that it has entered production, Nissan should be releasing additional details in the near future.
