Nissan Hakosuka Skyline With NASCAR V8 Spotted at Tokyo Auto Salon Show
The Tokyo Auto Salon show is an annual auto show held in Chiba City, Japan. Hosted by the Nippon Auto Parts Aftermarket Committee, the show serves as one of the largest motor shows for modified and tuned cars. At the most recent Salon show, Japanese professional drifter Daigo Saito presented a modified Nissan Hakosuka Skyline. The classic Skyline featured a NASCAR-derived Dodge R5P7 engine capable of 800 horsepower. The reason for such a modification? According to Saito, he had been hard at work on a client’s old school Skyline and decided to go all out. We’re here for the improved and powerful classic Skyline. We’ll take a look at the other modifications but this is a great example of the ingenuity of a D1 Grand Prix competitor.
Saito Designs and Improves Classic Skyline
Japanese professional drifting driver Daigo Saito presented a spectacularly modified Nissan Hakosuka Skyline at the 2021 Tokyo Auto Salon show. Saito is known for his ability and creativity so it’s no surprise that he was able to supply such a beast of a vehicle. Saito had stated that the classic Skyline was for a client, but he made sure to present his latest work. Looking at the Skyline, one immediately notices the updated candy orange hue highlighted by black accents. This has replaced the original orange paint to bring a fresh modern look to the classic sedan. Onlookers will also notice the cut factory fenders which were cut with precision. Saito then installed huge piano black flares in the front and rear.
The modified Skyline features black flares that flow into the front lip and lower splitter. The rest of the exterior is factory issue, but it does feature openings cut under each door. These allow the exhaust to exit more freely. The trunk lid has a nicely trimmed opening that allows the remote-mounted radiator to breathe. Next to the radiator is a Sikky-Winters quick-change rear end. As for the wheels, the large wheel wells house custom black work wheels wrapped in Advan race rubber. The front wheels also feature excessive camber which suggests this classic will see some drifting sessions.
The most extravagant and somewhat peculiar modification to the Hokusuka Skyline is the NASCAR-derived Dodge R5P7 V8 engine. Naturally aspirated, this engine provides about 800 horsepower. Paired with the engine is an RTS GForce four-speed transmission. In order to make room for it under the cabin, Saito created a custom aluminum tunnel along with a one-off roll cage. The Skyline retains its original dash, but it does feature some modifications that allow the steering column to be braced to the roll cage. There’s also a pod in the center that houses a digital dash. Behind the shifter surround is a keypad for the power, ignition, and hand brake. We’ll have to wait and see if Daigo Saito takes this blast from the past for a spin, but it’s highly likely the professional drifter will make sure it’s more than performance-ready.
