2023 Nissan Z Spotted with Retro Fairlady Badging

The all-new 2023 Nissan Z is almost here. The next-generation Nissan Z debuted in August, but order books have remained closed. Nissan has said that consumers will be able to order and customize their own Nissan Z near the end of the year, but according to a new spy shot, Nissan Z fans may want to hold off. A Nissan Z with Fairlady badging was recently spotted being carried on a flatbed truck in Japan. The photo was shared by the New Nissan Z forum and it shows the iconic Fairlady Z badge on the rear spoiler. In Japan, the Nissan Z has been known as the Fairlady Z ever since the first-generation model debuted in the 1960s. Known then as the Datsun 240Z in the US, the sports car got its nickname from the Broadway musical “My Fair Lady,” which was seen by the then Nissan president Katsuji Kawamata. It seems that the iconic nameplate will be available in the United States, as evidenced by Nissan’s filing of the Fairlady Z trademark earlier this year. We’ll jump in and see what this means for Nissan fans.

Fairlady Z Coming to the US?

Nissan will be bringing the Fairlady Z to the United States. The first-generation Nissan Z has been known as the Fairlady Z in Japan ever since it debuted in the 1960s. Now, according to a spy shot released by the Nissan Z forum, the Fairlady Z will be available for US consumers. Named after the broadway musical, “My Fair Lady,” the tradition of Fairlady will continue with the next generation 2023 Nissan Z. Nissan has been teasing the Nissan Z for a while, but JDM fans will rejoice as they will now be able to opt for the Fairlady badging. Further evidence of this new addition is the fact that Nissan filed for a US trademark for the Fairlady Z name earlier in the year. If Nissan goes through with the addition, it will be the first time the Fairlady Z nameplate will have been used in the United States.

The all-new 2023 Nissan Z will come equipped with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 capable of 400 horsepower and 350lb-ft of torque. It will come paired with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Nissan hasn’t released a definitive price for the next-generation Nissan Z yet, but it’s expected to cost less than $40,000. 

Once orders for the new Nissan Z go live, Nissan will be opening up its online configurator. This will allow consumers to play and explore different interior options. So far, Nissan has only shown the Nissan Z with a blue interior, but in another video depicting the Fairlady Z, we can see that the car has a red interior with a contrasting black trim. Hopefully, this means that Nissan will have a variety of customization. For now, we’ll have to wait for the 2023 Nissan Z to go on sale to learn more.
