Nissan will be reviving the 1960s Silvia coupe and turning it into an EV. Nissan has been aiming to branch into the EV sector for some time now. The Japanese automaker recently stated that it was investing close to $18 billion into electrification efforts. Nissan has already started work on its own EV, the Nissan Ariya. The electric SUV has a release date for the fall of 2022, but this is a good sign for Nissan. It highlights that like many other automakers, Nissan is committed to reducing carbon emissions and aiding the global effort against climate change. We’ll dive in further and discuss the Nissan Silvia, but it’s clear this is the beginning of a great EV movement for Nissan.

Nissan to Revive the Silvia

Nissan will be reviving one of its iconic sports coupes, the Nissan Silvia. Also known as the 200SX, this coupe will be returning as an EV coupe according to the Japanese site, Best Car Web. Nissan has been aiming to electrify its lineup, a move many automakers are considering. According to the site, Nissan will be reintroducing the Nissan Silvia as an electric coupe. Consumers can expect to see the Nissan Silvia EV in 2025. Currently, Nissan is working on the Nissan Ariya, another EV. The Ariya is an EV SUV that is set to go on sale at the end of 2022. If Nissan can get the ball rolling with its EV production, the automaker may have a chance to make its presence known as an EV maker among top competitors like Ford and Tesla.

The Japanese site Best Car Web did not have more information regarding the Nissan Silvia. Fortunately, Nissan Design Europe’s vice president Matthew Weaver was able to present several design sketches of the Silvia EV. In these sketches, consumers will note a futuristic blend of the old 1960s Silvia mixed with a modern symmetry. Weaver mentioned that designers have a lot of freedom now and as such, they can freely manipulate and play with certain designs and styles. We’ll have to wait and see which direction Nissan takes, but this gives us hope for the future of EVs.

Looking at the Nissan Silvia, one can expect it to come equipped with a dual-motor setup. This is the typical setup for EVs as it creates a nice balance with one motor driving the front axle and another driving the rear. For fans of the old 1960s Silvia, this new Silvia EV may not evoke that awe-stricken nostalgia, but it may bring back memories. For now, we’ll be staying tuned as to what Nissan does next.
